“In reality, all we photographers photograph is ourselves in the other – all the time.” - Evelyn Hofer
Lies Verhoeven is a documentary photographer based in Leuven, Belgium. Chance encounters have always been a central element in her work. Sometimes it involves very brief encounters with passersby that she photographs on the street. Other times, it involves long-term collaborations lasting for several months or even years. She’s convinced that there’s a fascinating story behind every person who crosses her path and she uses photography to reveal that story in an authentic way.
